PSRS 2015: Create a short film of your research story! Deadline 10th April

Postgraduate Summer Research Showcase (PSRS) 2015
Friday 5th June 2015

The annual PSRS is an innovative series of events that provide postgraduate researchers with unique opportunities to promote their research to a wider audience.

The second PSRS will take place on Friday 5th June 2015 at the Whitworth Hall (number 50 on the campus map). The event will be open to all members of the University (students and staff) as well as people working in industry and beyond.

Call for Short Film Submissions

This year, we are excited to announce that we will be featuring a video exhibition as part of the Showcase, giving postgraduate researchers a unique opportunity to present the story behind their research through the medium of film. Videos are being increasingly used for academic purposes, and so making your own video is thus something that can help you ‘stand out from the crowd’.

We invite postgraduate researchers to submit short videos of up to three minutes based on the story of their research. The story could be anything from how your research has changed or influenced you, your pathway and how you came to study your current area, or even where you see your research going in the future. The ‘story of my research’ videos are an excellent and rare opportunity for researchers to reflect critically on their own personal stance, and how their journey bears on the outcome of their research overall.

Twelve videos, three from each faculty, will be shortlisted and displayed at the PSRS event. Prizes will be awarded for the best video from each faculty. The deadline for video submissions is 10th April 2015.

Please note that your submitted short video does not need to be of high visual quality, videos filmed on a mobile phone will suffice. What is important is your overall research ‘story’.

Visit for further details, example videos, tips and tricks for making your video, and also to find details of our workshops designed to help you during the creation of your submission.
