Communicating Effectively: You, Your Team & Your Research

28 April – 1 May

Manchester Meeting Place, Sackville Street, The University of Manchester

Do you want to…

  • collaborate with researchers from a range of disciplines;
  • develop your communication skills;
  • get experience of team working, project planning, and decision-making;
  • exercise your creativity on individual and team-based projects.

Then the GRADschool at The University of Manchester is for you. At the GRADschool you will mix with postgraduate researchers from across the UK and gain invaluable hands-on experience via a 3.5 day, non-residential event at The University of Manchester. We will provide you with the skills you need to communicate your research effectively; so you can interest other people in what you are doing, and persuade them of the legitimacy and value of your work.

How does GRADschool work?

You will work in a multidisciplinary team on a range of practical projects; allowing you to explore team dynamics and gain insight into your own collaborative, interpersonal and team work skills. Intensive self and group reviews throughout the GRADschool will help you to reflect on your development and get the most out of this time away from your research project. The course is fully catered including coffee breaks, lunch and evening events with dinner.

Who can attend?
The GRADschool is open to postgraduate researchers (PhDs) in any discipline who have completed their first year. It is open to both UK Research Council and non-UK Research Council funded researchers from across all four faculties at The University of Manchester. This course is FREE for researchers at The University of Manchester and places will be allocated on a first come basis.

How can I apply?

Places on the Manchester GRADschool are highly sought after. Before applying, please ensure that you can commit to the full 3.5 days and that your Supervisor is aware of your intentions. Complete the Application Form.
